Cool and Clean Indoor Air, Even as the Temperatures Rise

Published 2018-12-07

More and more frequently, when the temperature rises past a certain level, the US National Weather Service will issue an air quality alert. They warn parents with children, the elderly and people with respiratory issues who are most at risk to avoid the outdoors. But unexpectedly soaring temperatures can still arrive off season.

The Costs of Conditioning Outside Air

Hot and humid weather is not particularly conducive to creating and sustaining an optimal cool, dry and purified indoor air environment. While in a residential setting, a homeowner might simply turn on the overhead fan and turn up the AC.

Owner-operators of large-scale commercial, institutional or industrial buildings face a steeper challenge; their occupants depend on a good solution for their health and comfort. HVAC solutions must be customized to fit individual structures as well as satisfy ASHRAE compliancy standards. That means a functional, low-maintenance solution that lowers costs and simplifies building management.

Outside air intake, which is necessary to providing proper ventilation for healthy indoor environments, presents a particularly challenging situation in humid locations, as the outside air must be properly conditioned for indoor use. Air conditioning, however, can easily burn through energy and equipment resources, and, ultimately, operating budgets.

An Alternative to the Ventilation Rate Method

Many building owners and operators, in an attempt to maintain ASHRAE compliance, rely on the expensive Ventilation Rate Method, with the result that they utilize more outdoor air than is necessary. However, there is an alternate method that allows for the reduction of outside air intake. Read our latest blog on ASHRAE 241.

To help its customers properly reduce outside air, Plasma Air’s PlasmaSoft™ IAQ Procedure software provides a turnkey, easy-to-use solution for the execution of complex calculations required in the Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP). The first web-based program of its kind, PlasmaSoft offers users the ability to calculate and compare contaminant levels to potentially reduce code-required outside air intake, resulting in lower costs to the customer.

In addition to the innovative software, Plasma Air’s bipolar ionization technology, designed to fit any project regardless of its size or nature, provides an enhanced level of air purification.

Utilizing PlasmaSoft™ software coupled with Plasma Air’s air purification products, building owner-operators can lower capital and operational expenses through a reduction in outside air intake, while simultaneously enhancing energy efficiency and improving indoor air quality. PlasmaSoft™ provides an easier way to regulate indoor air quality, analyze air contaminant levels and efficiently eliminate airborne pollutants in their buildings.

So, don’t fear the sweltering dog days of summer, whether they come sniffing around your building in July, August or December.
