Traditional ventilation design often relies on outdoor air volume as the primary method for managing indoor contaminants. But bringing in, heating, cooling, and dehumidifying outdoor air can increase mechanical loads, equipment requirements, and operating costs—without guaranteeing that the incoming air is clean.
The Indoor Air Quality Procedure, or IAQP, provides a performance-based pathway within ASHRAE Standard 62.1. It allows engineers to evaluate indoor and outdoor contaminants and determine how ventilation and validated air-cleaning technologies can work together to achieve acceptable indoor air quality.
For building owners, that can transform IAQ from an operating expense into a strategic asset—supporting healthier spaces, more efficient systems, lower lifecycle costs, and stronger building performance.
