Overview
Naamans Creek Country Manor, a 90-bed, two-story long term and skilled nursing facility, implemented WellAir's portable air disinfection devices, the Protect 200 and Protect 900, in selected areas. This study compares the total number of nosocomial respiratory infections and nosocomial C. difficile infections before and after implementation of the units, which use WellAir's patented NanoStrike™ technology. A 28-month review was conducted to evaluate the results.
Methodology
A Nurse Risk Manager Consultant with RB Health Partners, Inc. visited the nursing home for two days to abstract information and review the data. The periods selected for aggregate pre- and post-review were an 11-month time period prior to the implementation and the same 11-month period the following year, after implementation. Comparison of like periods reduces the risk of skewed data related to seasonal variances.
Results
In the period after implementation of the Protect 200 and Protect 900 units in selected areas, the total number of nosocomial respiratory infections at Naamans Creek Country Manor decreased from 83 to 39, a 53.01% reduction.
The total number of nosocomial C. difficile infections decreased from 42 to 6, an 85.71% reduction.
