Overview

Page Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, a 180-bed skilled nursing facility, implemented WellAir's portable air disinfection devices, the Protect 200, in selected areas. This study compares the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections before and after implementation of the units, which use WellAir's patented NanoStrike™ technology.

A 29-month review was conducted to evaluate the results.

Background

In a prior review by RB Health Partners, Inc., the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections was 20.25 before WellAir implementation. This prior study also observed that the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections decreased to 5.00 in the same four- month period after implementation.

Methodology

This current, follow-up study tallies the monthly rate of nosocomial infections of respiratory etiologies during the 29-month implementation, averages this period to a monthly rate, and then compares this monthly rate to the monthly averages prior to and directly after implementation of WellAir's NanoStrike technology. A Nurse Risk Manager Consultant with RB Health Partners, Inc. visited the facility for two days to abstract information and review the data.

Results

In the 29-month period after implementation of the Protect 200 in selected areas, the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections at Page Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center decreased from 20.25 to 4.17, a 75.31% reduction.
